Good evening, We hope that you're warm and safe at home, many of our Officers are out patrolling the snowy streets of Crewe right now! We had an incident a few years ago where someone fell into the canal in a rural area. Our Officers were showing on mapping as one of the nearest services to where the call came in from, so we sent our Officers off to find this gentleman and their wife. It was a cold night, and it was very dark. Lighting near the canal and fields were few. Everybody listened intensely to the radio for updates. We all so desperately wanted him to be found and helped out of the water safe and well. (The lady was elderly and was not able to help him out herself.)
We thought that our Officers were near by, however could not access to the canal was not from the direction that the Officers had come from. They could hear the shouting for help, and were near, but they couldn't find their way to the couple for a while and couldn't pin point exactly where they where.
Eventually, they got to the couple, the gentleman was helped out of the water, bitterly cold, but safe and ready to receive a check up from the ambulance when they arrived.
Knowing the exact location of this couple could have got the Officers to this gentleman sooner. Thankfully they found him in time, but it makes you question if they hadn't found a route in, and would the story have had the same ending.
The ambulance staff were given an updated location.
