How to deal with doorstep cold callers. |
||
|
Dear Resident,
We want to help keep you safe from bogus callers and doorstep thieves.
Doorstep cold calling is not illegal, however Trading Standards advice is to NEVER employ traders who call at your door.
Whilst we do have genuine callers at our doors there are unfortunately those that exploit people in their home.
This includes people who knock on your door, phone calls, leaflets rogue traders put through the letterbox and false use of logos to appear genuine.
These ‘salespeople/traders’ show up unannounced and try to pressure you into getting work done on your house, such as fixing your roof, driveway, gutters, or trees. They often claim they are working in the neighbourhood and can offer you a super cheap price.
You may also get sellers who claim to be part of a rehabilitation scheme to try and sell household cleaning products.
The simplest way to avoid rogue traders is not to engage with them, say no thanks and stick to it. If you feel unsafe, call the police.
Please keep an eye on elderly and vulnerable neighbours as they are often targeted.
We hope this information helps.

It is important to us that we know about the issues that cause you concern. We have set up a survey where you can tell us about the things you would like us to focus on in your area. Resident's voice | Cheshire Constabulary
